Condom Broke? Need Help?
You have come to the right place!
Emergency Contraception is NOT an abortion pill.
Emergency Contraception
(aka: Morning-After pill, ECP, Plan B)
Emergency Contraception is an option that is available to you if you have had unprotected sex, missed a pill, or think you are at risk for pregnancy.
What is Emergency Contraception?
Emergency contraception (sometimes called the morning-after pill) is a way to reduce your risk of pregnancy after having unprotected sex or when birth control fails (Ex.-condom breaking). ECP’s may temporarily prevent or delay ovulation (release of an egg), change the lining of the uterus (to prevent a fertilized egg from attaching), or thicken cervical mucus. ECP’s will not work if you are already pregnant.
Is Emergency Contraception Right For Me?
ECPs are most effective within the first 3 days after intercourse, but can be taken up to 5 days. The sooner you take them after intercourse, they more effective they are.
**ECPs are to be used for emergencies and not to be used as a regular method of birth control. Although ECPs are safe, they are not as effective as other hormonal methods so therefore are considered back-up contraception versus primary contraception.
For more information, questions about possible side effects, or if you need help determining if ECPs are right for you, please call Family Planning.
You do not need an appointment
for ECPs at KVCAP Family Planning. Just walk in during normal business
hours and request emergency contraception.
